The eldest of eight, Brian was born in Detroit to Chris Battersby and Helen Buckley.
He was raised in Detroit, attended St. Benedict (Highland Park) Elementary School and graduated
from Salesian High School. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit.
Even after moving to Indianapolis, he considered himself a Detroiter and moved back to the area he
loved after retirement.
The move to Indianapolis resulted in the founding of Battersby Danielson Co., a very successful
manufactures' representative organization.
He made many close friends in Indiana and loved his time there.
Brian truly enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Detroit Golf Club since 1973 He also loved
Northern Michigan and his many pets. He followed Notre Dame closely - one of his last outings was at
a Notre Dame alumni event at the Detroit Athletic Club with Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly as the
speaker.
A great people person, he immediately became a friend of whomever he met.
He loved his family and spent as much time as possible with his wife, daughter and son-in-law.
He also spent many hours mentoring young people, trying to help them become responsible adults.
He died peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side.
Brian loved his life and lived it to the fullest.
Brian is survived by Karen, his wife, Devon, his daughter, Greg, his son-in-law, brothers, sisters, nieces,
nephews and dear friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic
Church, 32340 Pierce, Beverly Hills.
Officiating will be his brother, Reverend Gerard Battersby along with Reverend Scott Thibodeau.
His cremated remains will be scattered at three of his favorite places.

Westfield, IN - Karen Ann Battersby of Westfield, IN, passed away on December 7th, 2024, at the age of 74 after
a brief illness.
She was born in Leavenworth, KS, in 1950 to parents, Duncan Daugherty and Irene (Chronowski) Cohan.
Before retirement, Karen worked at her family owned manufacturer’s representative business in the plumbing and
heating industry.
Karen enjoyed watching Bravo, playing cards with dear friends and volunteering in the community. She could be found
doting over the family pets. She was an ardent supporter of the Indiana Pacers and Colts, along with Notre Dame.
She relished travel with her sister and daughter.
After spending many wonderful years together, Karen’s beloved husband, Brian Battersby preceded her in death in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Duncan Daugherty and Irene Cohan.
She is survived by daughter, Devon (Battersby) and son-in-law, Gregory Morris of Lakewood, CO; sister, Linda Purdo,
niece Lauren (Purdo) Kennedy and nephew Zack Purdo, along with their spouses and children, all of Delray Beach, FL.
She leaves behind many cherished friends in Indiana and across the country.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
